Smitten

I'm so completely in love with these that I went stash diving immediately and found some Knit Picks Palette tucked away for I-don't-know-what and found three colors that I love. I soon had a sweet picot cuff and the beginnings of the color work portion on the cuff completed.

I had great plans for yesterday as it is the only day home for the rest of the week. Surely you thought I'd be farther along. But alas . . .

I had an eye doctor appointment yesterday.

Just in Time

With our high temperatures expected to be in the -5 to 0 degree range over the next few days, I couldn't be more excited to have these finished. I love, love, love these mittens! They are as much fun to knit as they are to look at. And since I'm venturing our in the world today, I can't wait to wear them.
Bird in Hand Mittens by Kate Gilbert; knit in Berroco Ultra Alpaca Lite, #4275 Pea Soup Mix and #4201 Cream; knit using Addi Turbo 32" circular #3 and KnitPicks 32" circular #3 started January 3, 2008; completed January 17, 2008; modifications: I used a DK weight yarn rather than a worsted as called for. I am much happier with this result.

I first saw these mittens at Margene's and knew I had to try my hand. Since then, I've had my head buried in my new copy of Selbuvotter, or my old copy of Latvian Mittens, to find my next project. Or perhaps, some blank knitter's graph paper and some doodles....
Thank you all for the good thoughts on the shingles. It appears as though it will be a relatively minor outbreak and that it was caught in the early stages when anti-virals do their best work. Mind over matter! Stay warm - mind over matter again!

Mo' Mittens

I usually get so much knitting done over Christmas break but this year, with house guests, it just wasn't meant to be. When time permitted, I did knit a bit on the Anemoi Mittens but a mistake somewhere has me off by a half a round. While it's not earth shattering, it bugs me. I may come back and finish these at some point. If for no other reason than - - I can.
I gave up my attempts on the Bird in the Hand mittens until I could find the right yarn. Margene's suggestion to try a DK weight was perfect. I picked up some Berroco Ultra Alpaca in green and white and completed all this yesterday afternoon and last evening during the season premiere of "Law and Order" (Finally - Jack McCoy got promoted!! I promised myself I wouldn't cry!) And yes, I see the tiny mistake, but that one, dear friends, can easily be fixed with a duplicate stitch!! OK, maybe there are a few other mistakes I'm just now seeing. But I did manage the braid - and THAT I love!!

So, I'll keep going on these because they are much easier to read and knit - especially at night. And they match my jacket and new down vest. But I better hurry because it's so windy here today that the snow over at Chris' blog is supposed to blow this way today - or so I heard!Still playing with the new camera so here are some pretty flowers to look at today!

Mittens

I've been seeing so many beautiful mittens while browsing around, I thought I should finally try a pair. My first choice was Kate Gilbert's "Bird in the Hand". I made a huge mistake in my haste to get started and began these mittens in Malabrigo worsted. I knew this would be wrong, knew it would be really wrong. No stitch definition at all - but oh soooo soft!

Moved on to some Cascade 200 and down a needle size. Nice stitch definition, but somehow, the mittens got bigger and because the 220 was recycled from a different project, it was bugging me.So that leaves me with the Anemoi Mittens in un-recycled Opal on wooden double points (as suggested). I pretty much love everything about these mittens so far.
Now I just have to go back and read what everyone else used for their Bird in the Hand mittens. They are so clever and I really want to get back to them. That little bird on the thumb is just waiting for me!

The camera is home from Berlin!
