My Guy

Legally declared so, 14 years ago today. Last year was a public declaration; this year I'm feeling more contemplative - more and "in my head". Suffice it to say, I love this guy, my guy, and would still marry him all over again.
Happy Anniversary Jon. I love you - today and always.

Nine Days Later...

. . . we get to celebrate again! So the signs and the banners just stay up. Poor Jon, it must seem so unfair to him that he gets no fresh decorations for his birthday.
Luckily, Kathryn saw the injustice in this and made sure to correct it. Tonight there will be a nice dinner, presents and leftover birthday cake.
But for now, will you please help me wish a very happy birthday to the man who stole my heart, who makes my palms sweat (still honey!), who shares my dreams and sorrows, who makes me laugh like no other, the keeper of the castle, man of the mansion (it's really not that fancy Carole - he just takes REALLY good care of it - and built it!), father to one terrific kid, two cats and a dog, my guy, Jon.
Happy Birthday Jon!
Also, I happen to know that it's a certain special birthday of a certain special Wisconsin girl. I couldn't love her more and I hope you'll stop over and wish her a very, very Happy 50th Birthday. Love you Vicki...glad I could pave the way to 50 for you. It's all uphill from here dear friend.

Where in the World Was Jon?

. . . or, my dad went to Disney World, had an all access pass, behind the scenes tours, private screenings and fireworks show . . .

. . . and all I got were these stupid ears. But damn, ain't I cute? Mouse, schmouse!

Interview with a Mister

Because he is far away in Boston now, it's safe to publish my e-mail interview with Jon on my knitting. He was not available to do a "live, face-to-face" interview so this will have to do. If you have follow-up questions, leave them in the comments. As you'll see, he may read them.

Me: What is your favorite thing about my knitting?
Mr.: It seems to make you happy and it is oddly social.

Me: What is your least favorite thing about my knitting?
You: unfinished projects in every nook and cranny of our home and car (Didn't think I knew about that one, did you?). (Me: emergency sock knitting!)

Me: What is something I have knitted that you recall as being good?
You: The blanket. It's big and finished and looked complicated and it is useful. I will never appreciate the socks, sorry. (Me: big afghan knit in different squares out of Red Heart. It's 8 years old! It's quite hideous.)

Me: Do you think knitters have an expensive hobby?
You: Not compared to jet aircraft collectors.

Me: Do you have any hobbies?
You: I think so. (Me: he THINKS so????)

Me: What are your hobbies?
You: Electronic gadgetry, home improvement.

Me: So, if we compared money/time spent on hobbies, who would win?
You: I think you would. (Me: I'm good with time but I think that John Deere tractor trumps all the yarn I currently own!)

Me: Do you have a stash of any kind?
You: I'm sure my tools and bins of electronic components would count. (Me: WTF?)

Me: Has my knitting in public ever embarrassed you?
You: Only when you were drunk at the same time. (Me: guilty!)

Me: Can you name another knitting blog?
You: No. Are there any?

Me: Do you mind that I want to check out yarn stores everywhere we go?
You: No if you did, but you don't. I wish you would send me on some scavenger hunts when I travel. I think that would be fun. (Me: Where should I send him in the Boston area - he's staying out in Marlborough?)

Me: Do you understand the importance of a swatch?
You: I'm a Movado guy.

Me: Do you read WoundTooTight?
You: Occasionally.

Me: Why or why not?
You: To find out what goes on in that head of yours.

Me: Have you ever left a comment?
You: No.

Me: Why or why not?
You: I'm afraid I will have to register for something and think up another user name and password. I am currently at my lifetime limit.

Me: Do you think the house would be cleaner if I didn't knit?
You: Not sure how that would make the cleaning lady come more frequently.

Me: Is there anything else you want to say?
You: Hi Jeanne (now blogless) and Chris!

And because he's gone and you saw him last week - how about a few parting shots.

So long Tara - we love you and miss you already!!

I Did, I Do

Kathryn had to do the math for me this morning, it seems like we've been married forever. I thought this was our 14th anniversary. "No, Mom. It's your Golden Anniversary." We had a little conversation about the difference between golden birthdays and anniversaries.
In all actuality, it is the time before I met Jon that seems like it lasted an eternity. That time you where you wander aimlessly through life; searching for something, finding all the wrong things, making all the wrong choices, turning left when you shouldn't even have been driving. And just when you think your life is about tho fall apart, it does. And you're a mess for a few years. But you fix yourself up and meet "this guy". He likes the "new and improved", on-the-path-to-self-actualization you. At some point you'll tell him about the you that you left in a heap over in South Minneapolis! He is strong and wise, witty and charming, and well past self actualization - but before egotistic. He may be the most amazing person you've ever met.

One day, he asks you to marry him. And so, I did. I said, "I Do."

Thirteen years ago today. I said "I Do." So did Jon. I have never regretted those words. I love my husband more every time I look at him. He didn't rescue me from something or fix me or save me. He was the first person to see the real and true me and to know the potential in me. I will love him forever for that. He is my husband, the father of Kathryn, a gentleman, a friend, a caring and giving human. If you've met Jon, you know of his sense of humor. Frankly - he is one of the best people I know. And he's mine. I'm resisting saying "I don't deserve him" because that would negate all the years of therapy - so, let me just say - and I DO deserve it.
Jon: I did marry you; I do love you, I would (and will!!) marry you again. Happy Anniversary!
