Just a Name

When last we saw her, my February Lady Sweater, was making slow and steady progress. That was, of course, back in February. She was a delightful, mutli-color alpaca yarn with which I instantly fell in love. Perfect colors for February I thought.

She took a break while I finished up some other (knitting and non-knitting) projects. And now look at her:Huh? How'd this happen? I could blame in on the Green movement but, I'm not all that "green". Although I do my best. It is spring and everything, but we're back down into the 40s again today. Nothing all that dramatic. Gauge. This beautiful sweater would have been nothing more than a light, airy wrap had I continued on under the old scheme.
So now the good news / bad news. I'm not getting to use the alpaca. But I've made much more progress in just a few days since dumping the old project. I'm now using a hand dyed yarn from a local woman. The base yarn is "Texas" which I'm too lazy to go look up right now. It's quite lovely and holds the pattern better than the alpaca did. And the green color will work much better for the Spring than just in February!

I Cheated

Because it is February, and I did finish two of the three sweaters I said I had to finish before swatching for just casting on to see if I like the yarn starting a new sweater.

Wrestled my new sweater away - this time from Tigger.

Put in on this morning, managed a quick, really bad self-photo in the bathroom this morning (first picture had a tooth brush in my mouth). Alas, I'm still not tall!
It looks better on me than it does on Kathryn. Doesn't it?

Chocolatestone

The long weekend provided plenty of time to knit on "Cobblestone". It's been quite a while since I've started a sweater - Rogue was my last one and I think that was three years ago. I'm feeling the beginnings of a commitment-phobia coming on. I've knit just about 8 inches into the body which is about half way. Just when it hits. The pattern is simple enough at this point, Round and round, breaks of garter stitch at the sides to keep you awake. And I have to keep going because it's for Jon. And I have to save my strength for when I get to the short-rows in the yoke - oh, and the sleeves.I'm OK with the Wool of the Andes in Chestnut. It's really more chocolaty brown that chestnuty. So, it's smooth, and chocolate, and round, and shiny and all I can think about are those damn chocolate donuts from Sunday morning . . . the ones that went "missing"! Then I remembered this little treasure from my very dear friend Amy, who loves a good chocolate donut as much as the next person. Now I'm speed knitting through this sweater, renamed "Chocolatestone" because I can't wait to see my little chocolate donut to remind me of how funny that whole thing was.
And thank goodness those brain trusts in charge of the school district gave the children this coming Friday off too! Who knows how many times I can see the donut with another three day weekend!
